BI + Analytics Conference

BI+Analytics Conference (formerly known as SABOC), is a celebration of the people, technology, ideas, and innovations that are powering constant change in the way we live and work.

Imagine for a second, one of these scenarios: giving a presentation on a brand-new idea, sitting with the team evaluating this week’s efficacy, brainstorming with clients to come up with that game-changing strategy, or planning that next big purchase for the department. Many years ago, these may have been decided and completed with very few metrics and limited data. Fast forward to today, where data and immediate strategic insights are imperative to driving real business outcomes and making nearly every decision.

Developing a BI and analytics strategy equipped with powerful capabilities like speed, reporting and insight driven visualizations can provide your business with the strategic edge to succeed.

BI+Analytics gives you access to global thought leaders, local peers, and industry experts using BusinessObjects and the full range of SAP’s analytics and reporting tools. You will learn how to lead with analytics, maximize your current software investments, empower super users and create a BI strategy and analytics team that exceeds the needs of the business. Your Analytics Future: Looking Beyond Tomorrow

Analytics is no longer an afterthought to operational systems—it’s now the foundation for the innovative organizations of the future. But these new opportunities bring big disruptions to traditional BI technology and teams. Join this session to hear how organizations can give people the fast and flexible insights they need to create the companies of tomorrow, while leveraging the best of existing investments, and get a glimpse of the artificial intelligence future.

The Road to Optimization

Turning data into a business advantage through optimization is the goal of most organizations. The ever-growing availability of data, along with expanding computing power and tools, opens the door to businesses gaining competitive advantage through analytical processes and skill. For UPS, process reengineering, data management, and advanced analytics are core to performance improvement. Jack Levis, Senior Director of Industrial Engineering at UPS, will share his experiences and best practices to compete with analytics, requiring organizational support in the form of data, tools, and senior management commitment. Analytics takes the general forms of:

  • Descriptive analytics: Analysis of historical data
  • Predictive analytic: Prediction of probabilities of future trends
  • Prescriptive analytics: Evaluate new ways to operate
UPS has gone through a long evolution in moving up this analytical hierarchy which required organizational commitment and significant process change. While many lessons were learned along the way, the end result has been reduced cost, improved service to customers, and a data driven architecture for the future. UPS has seen a reduction of 185 million miles driven per year by integrating Analytics within its operations’ systems. Its award-winning dispatch optimization tool ORION (On Road Integrated Optimization and Navigation) completed deployment in 2016 and is saving $300M to $400M annually. This presentation will show how UPS built upon a culture of engineering and quantitative analysis. Those core competencies are the foundation of systems reengineering efforts that use advanced analytics and location information. Examples of the changed processes will be presented as well as lessons learned from the journey.

Cater to the Audience of One

The greatest challenge in building a cohesive, enterprise-wide analytics roadmap is perspective. Many organizations have built roadmaps from the perspective of the executive, or the operational needs of the workforce. Hear a real-life case study about an organization that turned every employee into an analyst, equipped the team with intuitive solutions for gaining their own insights and produced an analytics platform that serves every area of the value chain (Supply Chain, Logistics, Marketing, Sales and Backoffice) - all in the cloud. Solutions covered include SAP Digital Boardroom, SAP Cloud for BusinessObjects, SAP BW/4 HANA and S/4 HANA - to name a few.

Big Data & Storytelling

Big data is changing everything from content development to culture itself. Matthew Luhn, a 20 year Pixar story veteran will share how big data is being used to create great stories and characters in films like Toy Story 3, Inside Out and beyond. Matthew’s experience and insight will empower and inspire publishers, advertisers and innovators on how to forge stronger, more meaningful connections with consumers.

SAP Lumira Version 2.1: Overview, Strategy & Roadmap

SAP Lumira version 2.0, SAP’s new flagship on-premise software was launched in August 2017 and covers analytics scenarios from ad-hoc self-service discovery to sophisticated analytical app design, including business planning. The software combines former separate products, SAP Analytics Design Studio version 1.x and SAP Lumira version 1.x.  Get an overview of SAP’s upcoming brand new Lumira 2.1 version showcasing new key capabilities for both business users and professional app designers.

How to Improve ROI & User Adoption for Your BI Implementation

This session will focus on the lessons learned from implementing BI with poor user adoption and the strategies to counter and improve user engagement. This is not a typical story, but will give honest truths and actual real-world experience that are sure to resonate with audience members who have struggled with similar challenges in their BI landscape. The end result was a more engaged user base who feel that they are a part of the process and their contribution is valuable. The business users became more involved and committed to the success of BI and reporting in the organization. The company was able to save money and get access to information faster than before, resulting in improved marketing and sales campaigns.

Leaner Staff, Deeper Analytics: Driving Greater Accountability with Fewer Resources Using BusinessObjects

During the boom years where companies focused almost solely on growth, one of the often-neglected areas of the Oil and Gas business was granular cost and performance management at the individual well level. Quite simply, who was worried about small costs on a low performing well when everyone was busy drilling as fast as possible?  With the downturn, the focus quickly shifted to one of hyper scrutiny of each cost, and driving more performance out of even the lowest performance well.  Unfortunately, legacy accounting systems weren’t built to provide data in a way that is easily manageable by the field.  In fact, they didn’t even know how to provide the data broken out into field operations relevant hierarchies.  Enter BusinessObjects…by fully utilizing modern analytics technology we delivered fully field relevant P&L and LOE data, broken down in such a way that the field could take ownership of the data easily, while simultaneously allowing them to take a deep dive as needed into individual costs (at the invoice level) for each well.  The result has been an expansion of accountability, a field organization that can have each lease operator fully owning the performance, cost, and results of each and every well.
